New Nursery Coordinator – As you know, Vicki Fantozzi (and her husband Tom Fallace) are moving at the start of the summer. Vicki has done a wonderful job and we will miss her greatly. We are very excited to announce that Glynnis Welte has accepted an offer to become our new Nursery Coordinator. We are confident that she will continue the great work being done in the nursery.
Ordination of Ryan Fleenor – Ryan Fleenor will be ordained to the diaconate on June 5, 2010, at 10:30am at Christ Church in Charlottesville. A luncheon honoring Ryan will be held at St. Paul’s at 1:00 pm that afternoon.
All parishioners are invited to both events!

Playground - Recently, some of the Chancellor Street/St. Paul's playground equipment was damaged. If everyone could help keep an eye on the playground and try to supervise children playing there, our investment should last a long time.
Large Print Bulletins - We now have large print editions of the Sunday bulletin. Please ask an usher if you would like one.
Reel Theology: Summer films and theological reflections
We are planning to show a series of films that work well as a basis for a theological reflection in July and August. Come join Jim and Lori on the following Wednesday nights. Since we don't have Community Night during the summer, eat before you come, or brown bag it -- we'll provide popcorn. The movies will start promptly at 7; the discussion will follow, after a short break. If you want to come just for the movie, that's OK too.
The tentative lineup:
July 14 - Smoke Signals, PG13, 89 minutes
July 21 - The Station Agent, R, 89 minutes
July 28 - Like Water for Chocolate, R, 105 minutes
Aug. 4 - Casablanca, PG, 102 minutes
Aug. 11 - The Elephant Man, PG, 122 minutes
Aug. 18 - Wall-E, G, 98 minutes
Aug. 25 - Being There, PG, 130 minutes (we will probably skip the credits and outtakes at the end)
Sept. 1 - Whale Rider, PG13, 101 minutes
Shrine Mont - During St. Paul's Centennial Year, we have our 30th annual retreat at Shrine Mont to celebrate! In 2009, about 140 St. Paul’s parishioners sang, roasted marshmallows, hiked, danced, fished, birdwatched, played kickball, laughed, read, geologized, washed green cups, knit, smacked a piñata, worshiped, talked and ate together at Shrine Mont. This year promises more of the same, so join the fun from July 9 - 11th!
Sign up for our 2010 Shrine Mont by clicking here.
If for some reason that doesn't work, you can register on-line at the St. Paul's website (www.stpaulsmemorialchurch.org). Go to the bottom of the page until you find 'St. Paul's News.' It will say:
Sign up for our 2010l Shrine Mont, our 30th this year, from Friday, July 9 - Sunday, July 11 here.
There are also be paper registration forms in the parish hall which you can mail or drop by the office.

Volunteers Are Much Needed at The Haven at First and Market! - The Haven is a resource center and day shelter for the disadvantaged and homeless in our community. Located at 112 West Market Street, this wonderful new facility is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and offers guests a safe place to rest, have a healthy breakfast, take a shower, do laundry, and seek assistance for medical, employment, and other needs. University students filled many volunteer shifts when The Haven opened in January, so especially during summer vacation, the year-round community can take up the slack! Volunteers take two-hour shifts, welcoming guests and assisting them in making use of various facilities. For more information and/or a tour of The Haven, please contact Kaki Dimock at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or call 973-1234.
EfM - Education for Ministry is a four year course of study and an intense group experience, and a place to ask the deepest questions of faith. This is not for everyone, but we are looking for new members for our two EfM groups, led by Jim and Lori Richardson. The course comes with textbooks that take about two-to-three hours a week of reading, and then each group meets for 2 1/2 hours each week. The cost is $350 per academic year, and scholarships are available. The day group meets Mondays 1pm to 3:30 pm, and the evening group meets Mondays 7 pm to 9:30 pm. For more information, please contact Jim at (434)964-7946.
Heather Warren’s Ordination - As many of you know, our good friend, fellow parishioner, and beloved deacon, Heather Warren is being ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of North Carolina. The Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry will officiate and preach next month on June 26th at 11 am in Durham, N. C. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Many of us would like to be with Heather and her family for this very important day in her life and the life of the Church. We have looked into renting a motor coach to take a group of us from Charlottesville to Durham and return on the same day. Without knowing the size of the bus we will might need, preliminary cost estimates from several sources are under $40 per person for the round trip. Tentatively the schedule would be: Departing from Charlottesville 6:30-7:00 am and leaving Durham to return 2:00-2:30 pm, arriving back in Charlottesville around 6:00 pm. Indications of interest are needed in order to reserve the motor coach (w/ restroom and galley kitchen), Don Burchell has offered to coordinate this effort, please contact him at 434-979-3115 (home) or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
