The Hospital Visitors program is the quiet ministry of St. Paul’s parishioners who visit Episcopalian patients and their families at UVA Hospital. Anyone who has been the recipient of pastoral visits while in the hospital knows firsthand how refreshing and uplifting it is to receive visitors representing St. Paul’s, and to socialize with people outside of the clinical staff. This is especially true for patients who have traveled away from home to stay at the hospital.
During the year twelve parishioners visit over 130 patients. Each visitor goes to the hospital three or four times, usually spending from one to two hours per visit. An average of four patients is visited each time. We strictly honor patient confidentiality by observing hospital rules and by identifying ourselves with hospital issued identification badges.
