|Prayer Shawl Ministry|
"Our Hands are God's Hands"
God calls us to serve hurting people inside and outside of the church. The Prayer Shawl Ministry both benefits those in need as well as providing a ministry for the participants. PSM offers a place for knitters to use their gifts of handwork in the service of others.
Shawls are available for members of the parish to give to their loved ones near and far. The PSM exists to bring the comfort and healing from God through the gift of a hand knitted shawl and accompanying prayer. The ministry also offers an opportunity for service by the members of the PSM. The PSM acknowledges that serving is mutual. Members of the PSM are as served as are the persons they are serving. The purpose of the PSM complements St. Paul’s purpose.
St. Paul’s Purpose
The mission of St. Paul’s Memorial Church is to celebrate and bear witness to God’s love in our community, the University of Virginia, the region and the world beyond us. By our worship, our teaching and our outreach, we seek to make known God in Christ, equipping our members for service in the world.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry as a Healing Ministry
Members of the ministry knit the shawls with prayerful intention for those who will receive them as a tangible sign of God’s embrace. We acknowledge the mystery of healing. We see our church as a congregational hospice that welcomes all to God’s healing grace. Healing is God’s work. We open ourselves to healing. St. Paul’s offers healing prayers during communion at its 10:00 service.
